I'm a resident and actively engaged community member of North Point Douglas, seeking the NDP nomination for the federal riding of Winnipeg North.

I believe Winnipeg North needs a progressive Member of Parliament who is a dedicated and hardworking advocate for you, your family and our community. For the last nine years, I’ve been working in our community with organizations fighting for better jobs and education opportunities, standing up against racism, confronting cultural and gender inequity, and volunteering as a mentor to young people.

As a woman raised by a Metis mother and the daughter of a Chinese immigrant, I know firsthand many of the struggles and sacrifices that Indigenous peoples and new Canadians face to create better lives for themselves and for future generations. Because of my experiences, much of my professional work has focused on anti-poverty causes and toward anti-racism and truth and reconciliation efforts with community organizations including:

  • BUILD Inc. (trades training program and social enterprise);

  • United Way Winnipeg (homelessness, poverty reduction, and truth and reconciliation);

  • AMIK Inc. (Indigenous employment); and,

  • SEED Winnipeg Inc. (business development training for immigrants and Indigenous women).

My commitment to Winnipeg North has also been demonstrated in my volunteerism and extracurricular activities. I have served on community boards, including Mount Carmel Clinic, BUILD (Chair), and the Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce. After benefiting from the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winnipeg program during my childhood, I decided to give back and am proud to have been involved with the organization as a volunteer mentor since 2013. As well, to help reduce social isolation and build connections between neighbours during the pandemic, I led free, physically distanced fitness classes in Michaëlle Jean Park.

I believe my education background will also help me serve our community. I hold a Master of Arts in Immigration and Settlement Studies from Ryerson University and an undergraduate degree in Political Studies at The University of Winnipeg.

I live with my partner, Kevin, and our cats Nanaimo, Timbit, and Sushi in North Point Douglas.
